Frankly Miss Scarlet, I DO give a damn.

Updated: Photos release of the Scarlet.

Is it bad to have gear lust for something you most likely won’t ever own or even touch? That was the first thing I thought when reading about Scarlet on CrunchGear. I believe what really caught my eye wasn’t so much the 3K capture, which in itself is extremely sexy, but the component-ness of the camera. Here you have a relatively small but extremely high resolution video camera that verges on traditional still and dSLR camera territory with interchangeable lenses, lighting, mounts, viewers, and even storage methods.

What is not to love about any piece of technology with this kind of flexibility engineered into it? According to Red, the camera’s functional debut will be early 2009 with the following caveat:

SPECIFICATIONS, DELIVERY DATES AND DESIGN ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE… COUNT ON IT.

As long as Red keeps the functionality of this digital video camera, they can mold it in day-glo pink and I will still have lust in my heart.

Special shout to the lovely video pod caster Calli Lewis with her coverage of Scarlet
